Cause-Effect Toys Special Needs Adults Will Love
If you are looking for cause and effect toys for someone with special needs, let me help you out! My daughter, Fanny, is severely developmentally disabled, with an IQ around 20 and a developmental level of 18 to 24 months, and she loves cause and effect toys!
It isn’t too hard to find toys for her. She likes the ones that play music and light up. But, the challenge is finding something that is different enough from what she already has that she will find it challenging and interesting.
Fanny will be fascinated by a new toy for a few days, then all of a sudden she will just get bored with it. When that happens, she tends to start getting into stuff around the house, which is inconvenient for us and can be dangerous for her. So, it is important to keep her stimulated, and that means having enough toys on hand that we can keep her supplied with interesting things to do.
Here is my list of toys Fanny loves, as well as some of the new items for Christmas 2017 that we are considering for her gifts this year. I hope you find something your loved one will like!
A Fun Cause-Effect Toy for Special Needs
Fanny has a lot of fun with this cute toy!
This tv remote toy was one of Fanny’s first gifts when she arrived home last year. This kept her entertained for a long time.
This is a very portable toy that fits into someone’s hand. It is about the size of a regular television remote. It plays music, lights up, and teaches numbers and counting. It has some cute songs that play when you push the buttons.
This is a good choice if you need a stocking stuffer!

Fanny really enjoys this toy telephone!
Fanny likes this toy that resembles a cell phone. She sees everyone else with their cell phones, and of course she wants one too!
This little toy phone kept her occupied for quite a while. It was one of her first toys that we took with us to Africa when we were bringing her home. It is small and lightweight, so great for traveling.
It also plays music and lights up. It counts, pretends to take pictures (says, “Say cheese!”), and suggests, “Let’s call Grandpa!”
It’s lots of fun! Fanny likes it and I think your loved one will like it too!
This Toy Tablet Will Keep Your Special Needs Loved One Busy for Hours!
Fanny has a lot of fun with this cause-effect toy!
Fanny was jealous of Abby’s iPad, so we bought her this tablet toy. She has had a lot of fun with it.
You can set this toy tablet to different levels of difficulty. For example, it tell you the names of the items, or it can ask you to find them. It also plays sound effects, such as the sound of biting into a crisp apple. When the player gets the right answer, it plays a celebratory trumpet flare! Ta Da!
Fanny likes this toy and seems to enjoy pretending she has an iPad like her sister.

This is one of Fanny’s favorite toys! She loves to jam with this musical toy!
This visually stimulating toy is one of Fanny’s favorites. There is so much going on with this toy that it keeps her occupied for a long time. It has a simple one-octave keyboard (no sharps or flats). You can set it to sound like a piano, violin, xylophone or saxophone.
In addition, this toy has 18 buttons to play different songs. The keys on the piano light up so you can learn to follow along.
It also has a microphone for karaoke! I thought this fun feature would motivate Fanny to vocalize. Unfortunately, she tore it off the first day she had it (she’s destructive like that). But, that hasn’t stopped her from enjoying the toy, and we don’t actually miss the microphone after all.
If you need a toy that will keep your loved one occupied for a long time, I highly recommend this V-Tech Zoo Jamz Piano. Lots of fun!
A Favorite Cause and Effect Toy for Adults with Special Needs
Fanny especially likes this toy at bedtime! A fun toy for night time!
This toy is a musical flashlight. Fanny loves to play with this toy at bedtime. It has different colors of lights and also plays music. It’s really fun to play with in the dark. It is also a great toy for anyone who is anxious in the dark.
